Last week it was time for me to visit a company named ISG Globals. I had heard from some sources that this company is one of the most renowned companies in India when it comes to producing lightning arresters. The manager at ISG Globals was generous enough to give me some of his valuable time where he expressed his thoughts on the company and its functioning.
The very first question that was in mind came flying as soon as we sat in his office. I asked him, "Mr. Gupta, what is lightning arrester and how does it helps people in daily life?" Mr. Gupta, with a smile on his face, explained, "Lightning arresters are advanced mechanisms which reduces the hazards of lightning. The function of these arresters is to attract the thunder lightning and dispatch them safely to the ground without allowing them to distort over a large area. These arresters are widely used in hilly areas as they face frequent thunder storms. Ranging from construction sites to the well established complexes, all use this system in order to avoid the hazards of lightning."
The next question which he faced was "how are they made?" He replied,"Lightening arresters are crafted with utmost precision where use of dynamic engineering is implemented. They are made from 100% pure copper which increases the absorbing power. The base is framed with a single rod which is attached to the ground and the upper portion consists of a primary tapered tip which absorbs the lightning. Towards the middle of the lightning arrester one can find multiple stems coming out in outward directions for increased absorption. Each arrester goes through comprehensive tests before being offered to public."
